NioBay Metals Inc. has been awarded a $500,000 grant from the Government of Quebec to advance the processing and hydrometallurgical optimization of niobium and tantalum at its Crevier Project. The funding is part of the Quebec Ministry of Natural Resources and Forests’ Mining Research and Innovation Support Program.
Nio Strategic Metals Inc. announced positive results from a metallurgical study on its Oka Deposit, confirming significant niobium and rare earth content. The study proposes an innovative processing solution that achieved an 81.14% niobium recovery at 52.75% Nb₂O₅ concentrate grade, a substantial improvement over historical results of 71.7% recovery at 44.5% Nb₂O₅. Additionally, the new approach highlights the potential for monetizing rare earth elements (11.75% TREO in concentrate) and phosphate, and significantly reducing thorium and uranium content in residues (61.31% Th removed, 88.73% U removed), thereby minimizing environmental impact and enhancing project value.
NioBay Metals Inc. has successfully produced high-purity niobium oxide (~99.6%) and tantalum oxide (~99.98%) from the Crevier Project via a calcination process. These results confirm the effectiveness of the hydrometallurgical purification work performed at SGS facilities.
